Zenpō Sensei learned the Pinan kata from Nakama Chōzō 名嘉真朝増, a close friend of his father's. The Pinan were created by Itosu Ankō 糸洲安恒, a student of Matsumura Sōkon. They are therefore not part of the Kyan lineage that is central to Seibukan.
The Pinan kata are characterized by higher and more relaxed stances than the Kyan kata. There are five of them.
